My Quarantine Project

Aug 24, 2020

My quarantine beard totally relates to your wedding. Bear with me here. This March, when life as we knew it here came grinding to a halt, I decided to let my beard grow wild. I’ve pretty much had facial hair of some kind since I’ve been able to drive a car. However, I’ve never let it really go. Like many people across the world, it felt like as good a time as any to let my inner lumberjack out. As evidenced below, I think it went pretty dang well.

Part of the reason I grew it out was because I believe life is meant for fun and experiences. I am a sincere, serious person in many ways. I have issues I passionately care about, a strong personal moral compass, and the belief that we should do good in life. However, I also screw around with the best of them. Just ask my wife. In fact, she recently pointed out I have two speeds. Full on earnest, or full on dumbass. I’d say any foolish thing to make her laugh.

Now for how I think it relates to you. I think weddings are meant for a bit of both. I really do. It’s the most important day of your life (save for birth of children, etc.) because it’s a celebration of you joining with your person. And celebration is the key word I want to hone in on. It should be fun. Of course for your guests, but mostly for the both of you. And fun can mean different things to different people. Fun for some could be taking part in long held traditions. To others, it could be bucking them all. What’s not fun is worrying about what you think you’re supposed to do. It’s a serious day, but it’s meant to be a good time.

When it comes to your wedding, what sounds fun to you? I think you should do that.

Anyway, here are some pictures documenting my quarantine project. Some on my pro cameras, most from my phone. I’ve recently gone back to my short bearded self. Partly to get a better fit with masks for shooting weddings, and partly because I think this is still the one that’s more me. Though I might eventually try something that’s more in the middle, because both my wife (surprisingly) and I were a bit sad when it was gone.
